Future Designer laptop – ROLLTOP //Diploma Thesis//

www.orkin-design.de The device of the flexible display allows a new concept in notebook design growing out of the traditional bookformed laptop into unfurling and convolving portable computer. By virtue of the OLED-Display technology and a multi touch screen the utility of a laptop computer with its weight of a mini-notebook and screen size of 13 inch easily transforms into the graphics tablet, which with its 17-inch flat screen can be also used as a primary monitor. On top of everything else all computer utilities from power supply through the holding belt to an interactive pen are integrated in Rolltop. This is really an all-in-one gadget. I hate it when people get paid to design thing that doesn’t exist yet. x.x Anyone can do that. I could do that. I could design a fancy looking teleporter that fits on your wrist like a watch. But nobody would pay me for that… because I’m not a famous name. x.x

  • TheMegaJet:

@SolidArch we do have flexible OLED screens currently, but we have one problem, we can’t make circuitry bend, if people can find a way to make resistors, capacitors, CPUs and hard drives flexible then this idea would be valid, however, we still have the problem of practicality, we have made flying cars before but because there is no practical side to it and little market for it it isn’t feasible to mass produce it, so, If the concept could be achieved, it would be a while before it would sell

  • Lozh97:

    ohh myy goddd! Thats AMAZING!!!

  • NakedCreep:

CPU, circuits, graphics cards, etc, they’re all gonna be cut into little tiny pieces.

    This design won’t work.

  • kiiifute1:

Conceived this model decades ago. Don’t fret my naysayers It’ll be here, before you know it.

  • brandon14872:

    cool its like the ipad

  • CommandnConquerFan:

    its not gonna happen

  • Anytime2play:

@Skycrusher actually we do have flying cars that cost like 190,000 dollars

  • masterdeath01:

@Anytime2play you’re talking about the Terrafugia Transition. absolutely right. costs about $190K. ;-)

  • masterdeath01:

@TheMegaJet you’re absolutely right. the only thing preventing this idea from taking off is the fact that circuitry doesn’t bend. people’s readiness to understand that circuitry has a hard time bending will lead them to be afraid of trying them out later on for fear of having spent a ton of money for a shoddy product.

  • TheMegaJet:

@masterdeath01 If the circuitry were housed inside the little tube where they keep the speaker and webcam it could work but It would have to be much bigger to accommodate suitable CPU coolers and heat sinks being that it would all be packed together quite tight but we still have the problem of a bendable digitizer, Although we have bendy touchscreens they can’t bend all that well, they have their limits so A roll up one would require a lot of work, something that can’t be done in mass production

  • KingRizlaSize:

What application was the animation rendered in? The strap texture is spot on.

  • urealysuck:

1:06 War of the Worlds in the future nah

  • killthelivin:

@Skycrusher we do have flying cars :P search up “transition flying car” or somthing

  • bruinsfan1995:

    ugly.

  • Skycrusher:

@killthelivin We also have working laser weapons. But it isn’t practical, the amount of energy output required to operate it and the over heating issue, sustained use, and practical /tactical deployement means it’s possible, but not perfected. We can make miscroscopic black holes using the Haudron Particle Collider, doesn’t mean we know what in the blazes is on the other side though does it.

  • FREAZEtv:

i hope its not made in china

  • sd9800:

    نا أعيش في حماري

  • LemonMan91:

Looks great on here but would it really be that simple to use?

  • MrJohnSlack:

    Aperture science logo?

  • Minigosh:

I think the concept is genius. Touchscreen is still in its beginning as far as potential I think but flexible screens are the next logical step… and its not as far away as you might think.. Sony is one of many companies experimenting with OLED screens.. Though right now cause they are organic their life expectancy isn’t very long, I am sure they will soon overcome that barrier. Bravo!

  • Minigosh:

@TheMegaJet can’t be done in mass production………. yet ^_^ its only a matter of time and at the rate technology is advancing, though it might not be exactly like this concept, OLED screens will certainly be produced faster then you might think.

  • JohnAndEdward1:

I wonder what technology they will have next century?
