Simple Methods To Fix Computer Errors

Computers have added a lot of positive changes to our lives and yet, they have also provided a lot of annoyance and pain. Computers need routine maintenance and upgrades in order to keep up with changes in software. Here are some straightforward things you can do in order to help prevent problems and fix computer errors.

The System Registry

The operating system of your computer stores all the settings and options it needs in a large database called the system registry. Do not worry, a database is simply a fancy word for a list and it does not matter one bit if you do not understand it. This database is modified whenever a modification happens with your computer.

What data is kept in the registry? The easiest answer is that everything is stored there. When you add or remove an application (we will get to the problem of removing programs in a minute), adjust account options, add or remove a user, adjust system policies or change settings in the control panel Windows will collect this information in the registry. Many errors in executable (program) files, dynamic linked libraries (extra files programs use to run) and device driver files occur due to invalid and corrupt registry entries.

For your computer to run its best, it is essential that the registry is in good shape. If you are experiencing issues for no obvious reason, or your computer is slowing down and generating weird errors, it can often be the result of an unstable or damaged registry. This is when the head banging usually starts.

Removing applications can often create problems in the registry simply because the Add/Remove applications does not always do a very good job. Sometimes, entries in the registry and even files are left behind. These “orphan” entries can lead to issues later on.

These issues can be minimized in a number of different ways. To start with, run the DIsk Defragmenter application that comes with Windows. Files regularly get broken down into smaller pieces as your computer installs applications, running a defragmentation program will reassemble the files. Although this does not directly effect the registry, it helps to increase the speed at which your computer can access the files on the hard drive making your computer a little faster and is a good start. It is not a bad idea to get into the habit of running this every week, you can even set it up to run automatically.

The system registry is next on the list of things to do. To fix computer errors related to the registry, you need to do regular registry scans so that all the unwanted information can be detected and removed. Although Windows comes with a registry editing program, trying to clean up the registry manually is an intimidating task. Without previous experience with the system registry it is a good idea to leave it alone.

There is a way to fix registry errors that is painless and easy – the registry cleaning tool. There are a lot of different applications out there to do this but in general they will complete various registry maintenance tasks such as removing duplicate files, removing orphan entries, scanning and repairing many computer and registry errors as well as performing registry backup.

Spyware and virus programs cause a lot of computer errors as well. Viruses add malicious code and files to the system which can not only affect its performance but also steal confidential data, and transmit it for malicious use. You can remove these issues from your computer with antivirus and antispyware applications.

We have seen some amazing changes in our daily lives because of computers but they have also add a little bit of pain and aggravation. There are simple ways to fix computer errors.
