it should work but better get a 600w to leave room for expansiion….and if graphics card is under full load…it mite crash
Yes….No problem. You could get away with a 400W powersupply with those specs so a 500 Watt will do it with headroom to spare. In fact, you could a couple more drives, etc. and still be fine.
500 watts is more than enough power. In fact, todays PC’s, with highly integrated IC’s, use less power than the early PC’s with discrete IC’s. Those early PC’s used 250W PS’s.
The reason people choose a higher wattage supply is for efficiency and reliability. A power supply that operates at a 40% capacity will run cooler and more reliably than one that is running at 90% capacity.
In engineering school, they taught us to calculate the amount of power required, then double it and that was the recommended power supply.
To future proof your comp. Get a 650W or 700W pwr supply.
A mid range power supply with an efficiency rating of 70% = 500W = 350W
70% X 650W = 455W
70% X 700W = 490W
500W That you already have there was fine.
Now if you’re going to add additional devices/components such as TV tuner, Scanner(that has no external power supply), Webcam, Memory card readers, extra CPU/chasis Fans/coolers and 1 or 2 cool Cathode light.
You might need some extra power. But still 500W is just fine. I myself was using a 2 CD-drives, 1 cdrw and 1 DVDRW 2 hard drives. TV tuner. 3 more extra chasis fan, 1 Cathode light, Webcam etc.
The 4 slots of my MOBO(motherboard) was all occupied.
It’s been a year now and I don’t have any problem.
